How to get Olive Oil candle out of carpet?
I recently purchased a pine scented “Olive Oil” candle from Virginia Candle Company. It’s made from olive oil somehow and it’s supposed to burn cleaner than regular wax candles. When it’s not burning, it’s still firm like a regular candle (it’s in a glass jar).
Anyway, last night someone knocked it over & wax spilled everywhere. There is dark green, pine scented wax all over a 2ft x 2ft square of my beige carpet. We wiped as much up as we could while it was hot. My husband whipped out the carpet shampooer, which just spread it around more. I got it off of the coffee table with GooGone. Now I’m just having a hard time getting it out of the carpet & the table runner. Any ideas? Does the ice cube trick really work?
Get yourself some old news papers and paper towels. Then a large rag. Now set your iron with no steam. You are going to lay several layers of newspaper over the spot. Then the rags or towel. Now start warming the towel, put it at a medium heat. As soon as you think the heat has gone down to the carpet depth, check and see if the newspaper is absorbing the wax. If it has time to change to a new piece of newspaper. Keep replacing the newspapers as they absorb the wax. When you see it isn’t absorbing any more than start using your rags to absorb. You may have to clean your iron after this but it is a lot easier than cleaning your carpet. Just use more old rags to get any wax off of your iron. If you have a old iron even better. It will raise most of it out of the carpet. But the smell, well that is another problem.If the carpet is really light in color and you are worried about the news print getting on it. Put the paper towels down first. It may be worth it to you just to use paper towels if the print is smudgey..
