…it changed the consistency of the wax and the candle never set up correctly. I wanted to make a White Shoulders perfume candle for my mom a while back, and thought it would be a good idea to add the actual cologne. When I did, it caused the wax to partially solidify, and the candle was basically ruined (it was clumpy and turned a funky grayish color with huge chunks of wax in it…yuck). I originally thought it was because I added too much cologne, but my candle-making friend (who has been doing this about 5 years longer than I have) said it was due to the alcohol content in the cologne.

She recommends using fragrance oils for candle making and I’ve had MUCH better success with those scents than I have with cologne/perfume.

You need to be very careful to get the right proportion of wax to fragrance oil. If you put in too much oil the candle may flame up and start a fire.

I use a hair dryer, but I am very careful (like you said, don’t want to blow the powder off.)

I blow it on the lowest speed but the highest heat and only do so on the underside of the paper, making sure to hold the paper securely. I usually utlilize a family member to hold the paper so that it doesn’t slip away from the movement!

If it’s on a horizontal surface, you could try melting it off. hold a flame nearby (not close enough to leave black marks) and let the wax drip off as it melts. There’s a cleaner they sell called Goo-Gone which might work too.
