I need an online place where I can buy ingredients for fondue?

I am planning a romantic fondue dinner for my boyfriend and me on valentines day. I am planning on buying those ceramic fondue sets that use a tea candle. The idea seems more simple. But I was thinking that the ingredients for the fondue might be cheaper online, I want cheese fondue and chocolate fondue. If anyone knows of a good online store that’s sales this at a good price I will really appreciate it.

How do you make a homemade realistic looking Fudge Brownie Candle and other Bakery Candle items?

I’m really interested in trying my hand at making a Brownie.
I would like to make just the simple brownie with nuts and/or “fudge” on top. Not with ice cream or anything.
Is a special mold required or can you make it from scratch?

Is there a special book or website that has instructions on how to make other “bakery” looking candles such as muffins, bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, etc?

If anyone has step-by-step instructions from their own experience in the candle making arena, that would be great!

Does anyone know how to make candles?

I am wanting to know how to make wax candles. I need step by step instructions, places to buy the things I need to make them etc. I would prefer responses from people who have or had made them before. I would also like to know specific places i can get the stuff from that I need. Thank you

It all depends on how fancy you want to be.

You can use anything already made of wax, including old candles, crayons, parrafin. I believe in reusing rather than buying new, but that is up to you.

There are various methods used in making candles, depending on your own taste and style, and how much time you want to put into it, but the first step is melting the wax. I’ve found the easiest way to do this is to use an old largish pot on the stove filled about half-3/4 way with water. Place an old coffee can in the pot of water as it starts to boil and start adding your wax from whatever source you choose.

From there you can use molds, like old cookie molds, mason jars, old candle tins, a hole dug in the sand or whatever you want.

An important thing is the wick. You can use them from old candles or buy your own, but I don’t have a source for them since I just use the wicks from inexpensive candles after all the wax has melted off. To make sure your candle burns evenly, your wick has to stand directly through the center of the candle.

The best way I have found to do this is just get a stick from the back yard and tie the top of the wick to the stick and lay the stick over the top of your mold so the wick hangs in the center.

After your wax has melted, pour carefully and use both hands covered with oven mitts to handle the hot coffee can to pour into the mold you have selected.

This is the basic method.

Some variations would be to use different colored wax to make a layered candle. Just make sure the underlying layer is set and hardened before you add the next layer. This is also nice if you are using the leftovers from old scented candles.

If you are using a clear glass mold and want to add botanicals, such as herbs, flower petals, etc., I would suggest dipping them in non-colored wax and letting them drip on a piece of wax paper or newspaper, then gently laying them up against the inside of the jar and let them set before adding more hot wax.

I’m sure you will get instructions from others more sophisticated, but I think this may be a good start.

7 Standard Type Candle Making Molds vs. 13 Homemade Candle Molds

Candle making molds come in many shapes and imagines. There are the standard molds, which will create various sizes of circular or square candles, or small trays that make a set of small tea light candles or votives. There are many specialty molds that can be ordered online or found in craft stores in holiday shapes, birthday shapes, and shapes of animals, nature, and foods, among many others. Candle molds are use to give candles the shape. There are many different ways to use candle molds, from rigid glass, plastics ones to metal and latex molds.

Standard Types of Candle molds

Glass molds cool down quickly and offer a smooth finish and rarely stick, but are delicate and prone to scratching and cracking, which will lead to breakage.

Metal molds are known for their longevity. Because metal molds do tend to stick, however, it is recommended you lightly spray metal candle molds with a store-bought silicone mold release spray, designed for just this purpose. To prevent the metal molds from rusting and eventually leaking or cracking, spray a light coating of the same silicone on the inside and outside of the mold before storing.

Aluminum molds are extremely durable and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. What most candle maker’s love about aluminum candle molds is that they do not have seams like some other molds have, so you don’t have to worry about trimming your candles once they are cooled.

Rubber candle molds are more flexible and offer you the added benefit of more intricate designs. As the candle cools it is advisable to keep a close eye on these types of molds. During this timeframe, candles may distort due to the flexibility of the mold. While rubber molds begin to break down over time, they create a nice matte finish on the candle and are sought after for both the different designs they offer and the ease in which the candle comes out of the mold.

Plastic mold is rigid, will not bend and is the least expensive of the candle molds available today. Intricate designs will not work well with this type of mold. However, since plastic molds can be reused many times without worry of damage or cracks, they are also the perfect mold for the beginning candle maker to use. Plastic molds offer a unique chance for the crafter to perfect his or her craft before moving on to the next type of mold or to a large candle.

Rigid molds can be made from glass, metal or plastic. Rigid molds are used to make unusual shapes such as bold geometrical shapes. Plastic molds are often used as they are the cheapest. However you cannot use rigid plastic molds with candle scents or fill them with wax heated to over 80 degrees Celsius (175 deg Fahrenheit) as this can cause damage to the mould.

Latex molds are very popular as they are easy to use and relatively inexpensive. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are quite versatile. Latex is very stretchable and is often used to create more complex shapes such as animals, fruits and flowers.

If you decide to create your own candle molds, here are 13 items you probably already have at home that can be used as molds:

Making New Candles From Used Candles

Ever wonder what to do with the little bit of candle wax left at the bottom of the candle jar? Do you throw away the candle wax when the wick has burned down? Well, stop throwing your money away. Candles have not lost their usefulness just because they have burned down so small they are no longer safe to light. Candles can be re-used. I am going to walk you through a four step process of how to make new candles from used ones.

The only items you will need to purchase are candle wicks. You can buy these at most craft stores.

Step 1You will need to find a glass jar that can be used to place old candle wax in. The jar must be able to withstand at least 3-4 minutes in the microwave (depending on how much candle wax you put in it). I often use a recycled candle jar. Many of the scented candles I have purchased over the years came in glass containers which I saved.

Step 2Remove the wick from the used candle. This can be done by using a knife and cutting away at the candle until the wick is exposed. Be sure to put the candle wax you cut away into the glass jar. This should not be too difficult of a task seeing as the candle has burned the wick down to nearly nothing.

Step 3After you have placed all the candle wax you want to recycle into the candle jar, place the jar into the microwave and heat until the candle wax has melted. CAUTION! Be sure you have completely removed all the used wicks. Some candle wicks are placed on an aluminum base before being placed into the candle. Aluminum will cause sparks if placed in the microwave. Never take your eyes off the microwave when melting the candle wax. You do not want to overheat the candle wax.

Another alternative to using the microwave to melt your candle wax is to use an old pot. I would recommend this method if you are not comfortable with using your microwave.

Step 4Place newspaper over your kitchen table to protect it from any accidental spills. Remove melted candle wax from the microwave and place on table to cool. Candles cool down very quickly. Within a minute or two (depending on how much candle wax you melted and how hot you allowed it to get) the wax should have cooled down to a soft but solid state. Push your wick down into the candle. Try and place it as far down as within a half inch from the bottom of the jar. Wait about another five minutes for your new candle to become solid and light it up and enjoy.

Remember, you don’t have to limit yourself to using only the same candle scent. Try placing candle wax from several different used candles that have different scents. You will be surprised at how pleasing candle fragrances can be when combined with other fragrances.

I hope I have encouraged you to try this easy and simple solution for recycling old candles by making new candles. If you try it once, you will soon get hooked on the process.
