Do you think candles are dangerous? What kinds of precautions do you take when you use them?

Have you ever used a “hurricane lamp,” one of those glass chimneys that keeps the breeze from blowing out the flame … or even a Moroccan lamp?

Are you nervous until you blow them out?

They are just so nice, but I am a little afraid of them, in case I might be inadvertently careless.

But I like them so much … especially the ones that are beautifully scented and the rolled beeswax ones …. and the big pillar candles.

And you? What do you like?

You are better off being a little nervous rather than too lax! Whether you use candles or not, every home should have an updated fire extinguisher. In most cases there should be several fire extinguishers strategically placed throughout the house. And learn how to operate them. You’ll feel better knowing!

Are scented candles ok in centerpieces?

I was figuring on putting a big red pillar candle inside a large hurricane glass for some centerpieces, but I can’t seem to find pillar candles that aren’t scented!!! Are scented ones ok? There would only be 4 or 5 in the whole room (about 75 people). Or does anyone know where I can find unscented red candles? I’ve tried Walmart, Target, Michael’s, Sears, …

Scented candles are fine, especially with so few in such a large room. I don’t know your budget but here’s one for $5 that is unscented:

You could always make your own too. You can buy a wax kit at a craft store for $15-20 and you can pick up some coloring along with it for $2-3. That will be plenty to make 4 or 5 large pillar candles. You’ll just need a mold to put them in to dry.

EDIT: Theologygirl has a good point that I didn’t really think about. You should probably shoot for the unscented if possible. If you can buy the ones at the site I listed above, you should be fine. If these aren’t what you’re looking for, please let me know.

where to get gold pillar candles at a wholesale price?

I would wait until after Christmas – you should be able to buy them at 1/2 price at most any store that sells Christmas decorations. Seems like there is always a lot of gold items at Christmastime.

Does anyone know what happened to this candle?

The place I work for has these Martha Stewart scented candles with “shortcake” scent that we light whenever a client comes in, to help give the place a nice aroma or air about it. They’ve lasted us quite a while, but now we’re in need of a replacement.
The problem is that I’ve gone to K-mart, Macy’s and pretty much anywhere that they might sell them and they no longer have the pillar candle in that scent; only the kind in a bowl or jar, which won’t work for our needs.
Did they discontinue the shortcake scent in the pillar form? If so, do you know of any other scents similar to it? It needs to be mild/subtle, not really strong or spicy.

I wish you had provided information on why the jar candle will not work for your needs.

Could you use unscented pillar candles, and have the scented jar candles placed discreetly, in out of the way places?

Yankee candles have wonderful scents. There are some “baked goods” fragrances such as Sugar Cookie, Vanilla Cupcake, Almond Cookie, Buttercream, and etc. They also sell wax tarts in the same fragrances, which are long lasting and heavenly. Would an electric tart warmer work in your place of business?
